She is visiting with the 7th Grade ESL students. We meet in small groups in 45 minute sessions. She has been given a tour of the school and we have had some interesting discussions.
Students reflected on their own prejudices and stereotypes regarding special needs students as well as racial and ethnic groups.
Dear 7th graders
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool how you have Melody on your blog and it is so funny. Also,is that melody walking in the hallway?
Melody is at the front of the 7th Grade hallway. If she were a new student at our school, she would be taken down that hall to her classes.
DeleteDear class,
ReplyDeleteI would like it if you would tell me all the things you could add to your school to make it better for Melody.
~Patrick
Dear Patrick i think Melody would use a water fountain. ~Kate
DeleteFor the most part, MMS is very accessible. However, we are a 1:1 school, which means every student uses a laptop. She will need to have some technology modifications, but may also feel a bit out of place not being able to use the technology the same way as the other students.
DeleteDear Kate,
DeleteDo you have any wheelchair ramps?
~Johnathan
Dear Kate,
DeleteIt seems like you are very spirited so will you tell me more of what you think Melody would do if she was going down the hallway.
~Patrick
Dear Patrick, i think it is oversees she would use her wheelchair!~Kate
DeleteDear Kate,
DeleteVery good answer to but would you help Melody onto the ship.
~Patrick
Dear Patrick,
DeleteI think Kate would help Melody. Who wouldn't!
~Chloe'
Dear Chloe,
DeleteI knew that but all I wanted to know is what Kate thought.
~Patrick
Dear Patrick,i think Chloe is right.~Kate
DeleteDear Patrick,
DeleteI do think Chloe is right Patrick. Who wouldn't help Melody?

Dear 7th grade,
ReplyDeleteWow you put Melody by the Melody blog that is cool. Your hallways are long. How long would it take Melody to get down the hallway? ~ Ayla
Melody may have classes at the beginning of the hall or all the way at the end. I think we would probably place her on a team that would be towards the front, but because this is middle school, she would still need to go to other hallways for her elective classes. Her motorized wheelchair would be a huge benefit.
DeleteDear 7th grade,
DeleteI bet it would be a huge benefit. I think that would be a good idea so she can be toward the front. Thank you for my reply! ~ Ayla
